This course provides essential training on hypertension management in care settings, equipping health and social care professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent complications and enhance quality of life for individuals with high blood pressure. Participants will explore the causes, risk factors, symptoms, lifestyle modifications, monitoring techniques, and ethical considerations involved in hypertension care.

Understanding Hypertension in Care Settings
- Define hypertension, its stages, and risk factors (modifiable and non-modifiable).
- Recognise the symptoms, complications, and coexisting conditions (e.g., diabetes, cognitive decline).
- Understand the importance of early detection and routine blood pressure monitoring in care homes.
Hypertension Management Strategies
- Explore lifestyle modifications (nutrition, exercise, stress management).
- Learn about the DASH diet and reducing sodium intake in care settings.
- Understand the role of physical activity and adaptations for limited mobility.
- Improve medication adherence and supervision for care home residents.
Monitoring and Assessment in Care Settings
- Learn accurate BP measurement techniques and avoid common errors.
- Identify and respond to hypertensive emergencies.
- Implement effective BP documentation and trend monitoring.
Person-Centred Hypertension Care
- Develop individualised care plans, including dietary and exercise modifications.
- Support residents with cognitive impairments who struggle with compliance.
- Engage staff and families in hypertension education and care.
- Understand ethical and legal considerations, including informed consent and CQC guidelines.
