Autism Awareness
About the course
This Learning Disabilities (LD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Awareness course is designed to provide care workers with a comprehensive understanding of these conditions. It covers the characteristics, causes, challenges, and support strategies for individuals with LD and ASD. Care workers will gain essential knowledge to deliver empathetic, person-centred care while promoting independence and inclusivity.
What will you learn
- Foundations of Learning Disabilities and Autism: Understand the definitions, classifications, and common syndromes associated with LD and ASD. Learn about their genetic, prenatal, and environmental causes.
- Recognising Challenges: Gain insights into communication barriers, behavioural challenges, and sensory processing issues faced by individuals with LD and ASD, and how to address them effectively.
- Support Strategies: Develop skills in using therapeutic approaches like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and positive behaviour support to foster independence and improve quality of life.
- Care Planning and Rights: Learn to create effective care plans, understand relevant legislation like the Care Act 2014 and Equality Act 2010, and support individuals’ rights and autonomy.
- Building Inclusivity: Understand how to advocate for individuals with LD and ASD, helping them access education, employment, and social opportunities while creating supportive and inclusive environments.
